Mum's heartbreak after son with rare health conditions dies just 13 days old

In the year since he died suddenly, family and friends of Port Elgin’s Liam Angel, 7, have managed their grief by remembering the little boy who loved super heroes – especially Ninjas –  a boy described  as a “strong-willed warrior. ” Liam was to enter Grade 2 at Northport Elementary School in Port Elgin last fall when he suddenly died Sept. 1 after being unwell for about a week. His mom, hypoplastic left heart syndrome treatment Katie Angle, looks back and now realizes that Liam was signalling the end was near in the week before his death. “Liam packed his bag, he wrote a letter to a friend and left it under his pillow for my husband to find after his death, and he did things with his sister like jumping on the trampoline, that he didn’t like to do,” Katie said in an Aug. 26 telephone interview. She said recently a helium-filled balloon seemed to float on its own through their home, including Liam’s former bedroom, leading the family to believe it was Liam signalling his presence.
